Salary: Above-market sessional rate of £25–£30 per hour, or NJC SCP 5–12 pro rata for a contracted role

Hours: Approximately 15–20 hours per week averaged across the year, with some weeks busier depending on the meeting cycle. Typically 2–3 evening meetings per month.

Contract: Permanent, part-time (sessional arrangements also considered)

Reporting to: Head of Governance

Location: Trust schools across the North West

St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust is seeking dedicated and reliable Governance Clerks to support our Local Governing Bodies across a growing family of Catholic schools.

This is a unique opportunity to play an important role in supporting effective school governance. Working closely with governors, school leaders and the Trust Governance Team, you will help ensure governing bodies operate efficiently, effectively and in line with statutory requirements.

Whether you already have governance experience or are looking for a new challenge, we will provide full training and fund your professional clerking qualification.

What you will lead

The successful candidate will provide professional support for:

  1. Preparing and circulating meeting agendas and associated papers
  2. Attending and clerking Local Governing Body meetings
  3. Producing accurate minutes and maintaining action records
  4. Providing procedural and constitutional guidance during meetings
  5. Maintaining governance records, registers and statutory documentation
  6. Supporting governance compliance and website information requirements
  7. Clerking admissions, exclusions, complaints and other governance panels where required
  8. Maintaining governance records on GovernorHub and other governance systems
  9. Supporting governors and school leaders with governance administration
  10. Developing knowledge and expertise through ongoing governance training

We are looking for someone who:

  1. Is organised, reliable and able to manage deadlines effectively
  2. Has strong written communication and note-taking skills
  3. Can produce accurate records and minutes
  4. Is confident communicating with a range of stakeholders
  5. Is IT literate and comfortable using Microsoft Office, email and online meeting platforms
  6. Can work independently while being part of a wider team
  7. Has a professional and confidential approach to their work
