Your Role

Christ the King College is looking for a dedicated and proactive Caretaker to join our Premises Team. This is a key role ensuring the day-to-day upkeep, security, and maintenance of our College site to provide a safe and high-quality environment for our students and staff. We are committed to an educational community where every individual is supported to be their best, and our premises team is vital in maintaining the facilities that make this possible. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will be responsible for the security and maintenance of the College buildings and grounds.


Key duties include:

  • Assisting with locking and unlocking buildings and managing alarm systems.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance checks and repairs to ensure statutory compliance across the site.
  • Identifying and rectifying building defects or damaged equipment promptly.
  • Providing practical support to students and staff regarding premises matters and assisting with break or lunchtime supervision when required.
  • Occasionally working outside of normal hours to accommodate College events or lettings.


The successful candidate will be a committed team player with a "can-do" attitude.


We are looking for:

  • Skils: Proficiency in a variety of premises maintenance duties and the ability to use a range of hand and power tools.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a public service or educational environment is essential. Expertise in construction, plumbing, or carpentry is highly desirable.
  • Attributes: A proactive approach, high standards for work presentation, and a friendly, supportive attitude towards our community.
  • Communication: Good communication and basic ICT skills for using email and the internet.
  • Requirements: A good command of written and spoken English, a willingness to train as a First Aider and ability to drive the school minibus

Christ the King College is a joint Church of England and Catholic College on the Isle of Wight, providing a Christian education underpinned by Gospel values and reflecting both Church of England and Catholic traditions. It operates under the auspices of both the Church of England and Catholic Dioceses of Portsmouth. 


The school has over 1,100 students on roll, including a Sixth Form College of about 200 students. It is a well-established comprehensive school, which is well supported by parents and highly respected in the community.
