Your Role

Teaching Assistant – 1:1 SEND Support

The Laurels Primary School

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a compassionate, patient and committed Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at The Laurels Primary School.

The Laurels is a welcoming one-form entry primary school, part of Durrington Multi-Academy Trust, where every child is known as an individual and encouraged to achieve their full potential.

This is a permanent Teaching Assistant role, initially providing 1:1 SEND support for a child with an EHCP who is currently in Reception. The successful candidate is expected to continue supporting the child as they progress through the school.

As the child grows and develops, the role will evolve too. You will help them to access learning, develop positive relationships and become increasingly confident and independent, working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school team.

We are looking for someone who is kind, patient, adaptable and committed to making a real difference to children's lives. You will need to be able to build positive relationships, work effectively as part of a team and respond sensitively to a child's changing needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop their experience and expertise in supporting children with SEND while becoming a valued and permanent member of our school community.

Salary: Grade 4, SCP £26,428 pro rata per annum

Actual salary: £18,886.95

Hours: 8.30am–3.15pm, Monday–Friday

Contract: Permanent, term time only plus INSET days

Please complete the application form and submit it with a supporting statement of no more than two sides of A4 by 9am on Friday 23rd October.

Please address:

1. Why would you like to work with the children and staff at The Laurels Primary School and what would you bring to our team?

2. Drawing on your experience, how would you support a child with additional needs to feel safe, communicate their needs, access learning and develop increasing independence?

Given the individual nature of this role, applicants should be aware of the importance of maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Any existing personal relationships should be declared during the recruitment process so that potential conflicts of interest can be considered appropriately.

Please read the attached Job Information Pack for full details about the role, our school, the candidate specification and what we can offer you.

Early applications are encouraged as we review applications as they are received and may close the vacancy early if sufficient suitable applications are received.

Safeguarding Information

Safeguarding – Our Commitment

Keeping children safe is at the heart of everything we do. As part of our recruitment process, we take steps to make sure everyone who joins us shares this commitment.

What this means for you:

  • All roles in our schools involve a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
  • If you’re successful, you’ll need to complete some pre-employment checks, such as an enhanced DBS check and verifying your right to work in the UK. We’ll explain these clearly and guide you through the process.
  • During the interview, we may ask questions about your understanding of safeguarding. This isn’t a test—it’s about making sure we all share the same values and priorities.

Why do we do this?

Because every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and able to thrive. These checks and conversations help us create a secure and welcoming environment for everyone.

If you have any questions about safeguarding or the checks we carry out, please let us know—we’re happy to help.
