Your Role

The Role

Do you want to be a part of a growing, successful business where no two days are the same?

Where we are always putting children’s education and futures at the heart of our solutions? Then read on!

Who are SAMPeople? What do we do?

We are Education people specialists; we have a team of leaders who have all worked in education for many years and understand the business challenges that schools and MATs have to deal with day in and day out. We have developed cloud based software for schools to give them a one-stop shop for their people management.

Our Payroll & Pension Bureau removes the admin burden for schools, allowing us to provide a flexible and reliable payroll solution tailored to accommodate their needs, ensuring peace of mind that their staff will be paid accurately and on time, every time.

We’re looking to add a Payroll Manager into our growing payroll team to continue the exciting rollout of our bureau service.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary range £50,000 - £55,000 depending on edu-payroll experience
  • 25 days annual leave (plus 8 days Bank Hols)
  • Your birthday off
  • BUPA Healthcare Cashback plan – following successful completion of probation
  • Pension Scheme
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities – we can offer supported study and potential funding for external qualifications
  • A cracking team to work with!
  • Flexible working – we can offer part time or term time hours to suit you and your family

This role can be worked remotely, but you can also pop into our fab offices whenever you like!

What will you do day to day?

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for multiple education clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC and pension regulations.
  • Manage a team of payroll officers and administrators, providing leadership, induction, training schedule, and performance management.
  • Project management oversight
  • Oversee customer hub content for payroll
  • Team capacity management
  • Oversee Helpdesk tickets
  • Responsible for MAT expansions (additional schools added to MAT)
  • Ensure timely submission of RTI (Real Time Information) and year-end returns (P60, P11D, etc.).
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Teachers’ Pensions, Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS), and Auto-Enrolment requirements.
  • Liaise with school and trust leaders, HR teams, and external bodies to resolve payroll queries and ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Implement and maintain robust payroll controls, audits, and reconciliations.
  • Support the implementation of new payroll software or system upgrades.
  • Monitor legislative changes affecting payroll and pensions and ensure compliance.
  • Prepare and present payroll reports and analysis to internal and external stakeholders.

What makes you the ideal candidate for us?

We feel really lucky to work here; we’re part of a super supportive team with a great working environment and can offer flexible hours and options to fit around any family commitments you might have. Because of this, we have a very happy and long standing team who are genuinely passionate about the job they do.

We’ll be looking for someone who shares our strong values and belief in our purpose ‘to create better futures for our children through innovative people solutions’.

Other bits which are important...

  • Proven experience in payroll management, preferably within an education or multi-client bureau setting.
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, NIC, statutory payments, and pensions.
  • Experience with education sector payroll systems
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and client relationship skills.
  • CIPP qualification or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Experience in forging strategic level customer relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
