An exciting opportunity has arisen to make a valuable contribution to our SCITT programme:


ITT Lead for English: PGCE Tutor (full time permanent position)

MPS/UPS (at the appropriate level) plus TLR2B (£5,351 per annum)

Required for April or September start 2024


Due to the promotion of the previous postholder, we wish to appoint an experienced, highly competent professional to continue the development of our ‘outstanding’ SCITT programme. You will work within our SCITT team to lead the PGCE qualification and specifically English element of the SCITT programme, joining a dynamic and forward-looking team committed to developing the next generation of teachers.

Our course is unique and we have been recognised as an Ofsted ‘outstanding’ provider. Many of our Associate Teachers go on to work within our ITT Partnership. All Subject Leads / PGCE tutors must be credible outstanding practitioners, as the position also holds a teaching commitment within the ATLP.


The successful candidate will:-

-       Be an outstanding teacher and school leader with experience in initial teacher training

-       Have excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with existing and potential trainees, learning coaches, professional coaches and headteachers

-       Lead on the design and delivery of the SCITT programme for English

-       Lead on securing high quality outcomes within the SCITT programme (attainment, completion rates, employment, how well trainees teach)

-       Have an understanding of ITE systems, relevant legislation and current national ITE guidelines

-       Hold a master’s degree or be working towards this


The successful candidate will be responsible for:

-       Undertaking the role of PGCE Tutor in English

-       Delivering high quality, evidence-informed training for English Associate Teachers

-       Overseeing and monitoring the work of a SPL in additional subject area(s)

-       The assessment and moderation of PGCE assignments

-       Proactive involvement in the recruitment process

-       Actively promoting the SCITT programme and attending open evenings and recruitment events to assist with effective recruitment

-       Contributing to whole cohort training

-       Tracking and monitoring of SCITT trainees past and present

-       Taking responsibility for key elements of the SCITT Development Plan

-       The development and training of a team of Learning Coaches

-       Working within the Teaching School Hub to develop the subject specific pedagogy of teachers

-       Academic responsibilities related to the wider PGCE, including assignments and liaison with Birmingham City University
