We are seeking a reliable and motived Management Accountant to support our Finance Team at Portland College. This is a varied and fast paced role in which you will play a key part in financial management and reporting across the organisation.
What you will be doing:
- Producing monthly management accounts and reports, ensuring VAT rules are correctly applied across all transactions
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, year-end accounts preparation, and quarterly VAT returns.
- Carrying out balance sheet and bank reconciliations, sometimes within strict timelines.
- Preparing monthly financial reporting packs for the Senior Management Team.
- Liaising with auditors and supporting statutory returns.
- Monitoring VAT inputs across sales and purchase ledgers.
- Working closely with budget holders to provide financial insight and support.
- Support funding processes, including EFA and Local Authority payments.
- Assisting with financial modelling, programme costing, and reconciliations.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a professional Accountancy related qualification or significant experience in an Accounting Role.
- Has a proven ability to develop positive working relationships with individuals at all levels, ideally in Business Partnering.
- Is organised with excellent time management skills.
- Adopts a systematic approach to work with demonstrable problem-solving skills.
- Has an understanding of VAT regulations, reviews and transaction amendments.

Qualifications needed
Essential
- Professional Accountancy related qualification or significant experience in an Accounting role.
Desirable
- Professional Accountancy qualification (Degree/ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
- VAT specific qualification.
Working Hours
Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 4:30pm – some flexibility can be allowed – to be discussed at interview.
