We have an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking Trust Apprentice Finance Assistant to join our successful team on a full-time basis. We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, individual who will be able to support the Finance Team, Finance Manager and Director of Finance.

In the role you will maintain a comprehensive financial support service and undertake responsibilities as a member of the Finance team, to provide efficient and effective financial support required to meet the Trust’s core financial responsibilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the day-to-day processes are managed in an accurate and timely manner alongside undertaking the AAT Level 2 Accounting Qualification.

Specific Responsibilities:

Finance Office

  1. Provide high quality financial administrative support to the Trust’s Finance Team under the direction of the Assistant Finance Manager or Finance Manager
  2. Act as main contact for the Finance Office, offering support to parents, pupils and other staff members across the trust
  3. Respond to staff, parent and pupil queries timely and professionally
  4. Ensure the finance office is always manned
  5. Monitor the finance inbox
  6. Oversee all Academy deliveries as per goods in process and distribution policy
  7. Support finance payables function with purchase ordering and invoice processing to the finance system
  8. Process internal recharge journals monthly to the finance system
  9. Operate as main finance cashier
  10. Daily counting and reconciliation of cash, card transactions and cashless transactions
  11. Process banking against finance control account for weekly cash collection.
  12. Daily collection and reconciliation of catering tills
  13. Manage and maintain petty cash and float distribution and processing
  14. Operation of the Academy uniform shop
  15. Daily operation of the uniform shop 8.30-8.45, including ad-hoc throughout the day for parents
  16. Termly stock control
  17. Undertake annual stock take in August
  18. Process & reconcile sales daily to the finance accounting system
  19. Provide administrative support for Academy Trips to trip leaders
  20. Reconcile and issue monthly trip reports
  21. Monitor trip payments
  22. Carry out other tasks as specified within the roles task list

General Responsibilities

  1. Catering support by way of manning one of the Academy canteen tills daily during servery and any ad-hoc cover when required
  2. Undertake exam invigilation as and when required, once training has been received
  3. Be available to assist during specific events such as annual induction evenings and uniform distribution days, other annual school events
  4. Attend Twilight sessions relevant to personal CPD or Academy requirements as directed by Assistant Finance Manager or Finance Manager
  5. Contribute to totality of role where and when appropriate
  6. Undertake any duties as directed by the Finance Manager or Chief Financial Officer in support of the Trusts overall financial responsibilities
  7. Cover finance colleagues during periods of absence as directed
  8. Due to the operational requirements of the role, annual leave should preferably be taken during school holiday periods

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  1. You will work towards completing a Level 2 AAT Accounting Qualification
  2. Dedicated off-the-job training time will be provided during your working week to enable you to work towards your qualification, with study time planned around the needs of the role and month end deadlines
  3. Training costs associated with the apprenticeship will be fully funded by the Trust

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  1. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be an opportunity to secure a permanent position with the employer, subject to performance and business requirements.

Qualifications
