Your Role

Speech and Language Therapist

Location: Central role assigned to South Cumbria (Barrow-in-Furness)

Are you a passionate Speech and Language Therapist looking to transform outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)?

At Co-op Academies Trust, we are looking for a dedicated, forward-thinking Speech and Language Therapist to join our team in South Cumbria (Barrow-in-Furness). Many of our schools serve areas facing high levels of deprivation across the North of England. In this unique role, you won’t just manage a caseload—you will work alongside school staff, SENCOs, and external partners to build long-term capacity, upskill teaching teams, and create truly communication-friendly environments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver individual and group speech, language, and communication assessments and evidence-based interventions for pupils with complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and sensory processing needs.
  2. Work closely with school SENCOs, teachers, and support staff to embed practical speech and language strategies across the wider curriculum.
  3. Design and deliver high-quality training and practical workshops for school staff, parents, and carers.
  4. Collaborate alongside existing NHS Speech and Language Therapy provisions to maximise support capacity across our primary and secondary academies.
  5. Contribute to Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), maintaining thorough records in accordance with HCPC and RCSLT standards.

What We Are Looking For

  1. Qualifications: Recognised Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and active registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  2. Experience: Proven experience working in inclusive educational settings with young people with SEND and complex learning or communication needs.
  3. Skills: Strong collaborative skills, expertise in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), ability to produce high-quality clinical reports, and a passion for empowering school staff.
  4. Values: A clear commitment to co-operative principles, inclusion, equal opportunities, and public service.

Why Choose Co-op Academies Trust?

  1. Values-Driven Culture: Guided by our Ways of Being Co-op (Do what matters most, Be yourself always, Show you care, Succeed together), we place ethics, equity, and community at the heart of everything we do.
  2. Dedicated Supervision & Professional Growth: Access clinical supervision, peer support networks, and ongoing continuous professional development (CPD).
  3. Competitive Employee Benefits: Local Government Pension Scheme, Co-op staff discounts, and access to a wide range of health and wellbeing benefits.
