Your Role

Christ the King College is a joint Church of England and Catholic College on the Isle of Wight, providing a Christian education underpinned by Gospel values and reflecting both Church of England and Catholic traditions. It operates under the auspices of both the Church of England and Catholic Dioceses of Portsmouth. The school has over 1000 students on roll, including a Sixth Form College of about 200 students. It is a well-established comprehensive school, which is well supported by parents and highly respected in the community.

As a joint Church of England and Catholic secondary college, we are a community built on Christian ideals, dedicated to helping every student become "the best they can possibly be." Our support staff play a crucial role in upholding the mission, ethos, and values of the College.

We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Premises & Facilities Assistant to join our hard-working Premises Team. This is a vital role in ensuring our school remains a safe, secure, and high-quality learning environment for all students and staff.

You will work as part of the Premises Team to maintain the college buildings, facilities, and grounds to a high standard. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Site Security: Assisting with locking and unlocking buildings, setting alarms, and conducting security checks.
  • Maintenance & Repairs: Carrying out minor routine repairs, using the College’s helpdesk system.
  • Janitorial & Cleaning: Ensuring the premises are free from litter and hazards, replenishing toiletries, and performing carpet or floor cleaning as needed.
  • Grounds Work: Performing minor maintenance such as weed removal and clearing pathways.
  • Event Support: Preparing the College for lettings, assemblies, and parents' evenings, and assisting with the distribution of deliveries.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be proactive in identifying and rectifying building defects or equipment issues.
  • Be able to work flexible hours to accommodate change in shift patterns or emergency call-outs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Health and Safety, Safeguarding, and Child Protection procedures.
  • Act as a professional role model, maintaining high standards of attendance, punctuality, and conduct.

This role is based on 30 hours per week (working hours 11.00am - 5.00pm, Mon - Fri), Term Time plus 15 days to be worked during school holidays, but it also requires some flexibility to enable cover for team colleagues if necessary and to support lettings and community events out of school hours or on weekends on occasions.

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. These posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicants will be expected to undertake enhanced DBS checks as well as Social Media/Internet checks.
