Your Role

Are you a visionary leader with a passion for exploring the complexities of society? Christ the King College is excited to offer a unique opportunity for an inspiring educator to lead our newly established Social Science Department.

This is a rare chance to shape the direction of a new department from the ground up. As Head of Social Science, you will provide professional leadership and management to secure high-quality teaching and exceptional standards of achievement. You will lead a team of specialist teachers, fostering a culture of collaborative planning and shared best practice across a suite of increasingly popular subjects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Leadership: Lead the development and delivery of a rigorous and engaging Social Science curriculum at Key Stages 4 and 5.
  • Expert Teaching: Teach at least one (preferably two) of our core A-Level subjects: Psychology, Sociology, or Government & Politics.
  • Research Leadership: Act as the Project Co-ordinator for EPQ (Level 3) and HPQ (Level 2) [desired but not essential], teaching the mechanics of high-level research, ethics, and critical analysis.
  • Strategic Growth: Actively promote Social Science subjects at Open Evenings to maintain and grow our thriving Sixth Form intake.
  • Ethos Integration: Ensure the curriculum encourages students to explore social, ethical, and political issues through the lens of empathy, justice, and the College’s Christian values.

About You - We are looking for a dynamic leader who:

  • Has a proven track record of delivering excellent outcomes at Key Stage 4 and/or 5.
  • Possesses extensive subject knowledge in Psychology, Sociology, or Government & Politics.
  • Is a "role model" teacher with the ability to coach and mentor other staff.
  • Is passionate about developing students' analytical skills through the EPQ/HPQ framework.
  • Is committed to the joint Catholic and Church of England ethos of "valuing every individual."

What We Offer

  • The chance to lead and define a brand-new department in a supportive educational community.
  • A Sixth Form environment with students who are highly motivated and engaged in social inquiry.
  • Professional development opportunities focused on leadership and curriculum innovation.
  • The opportunity to work in a College that balances academic rigour with strong moral and spiritual guidance.

Whilst the vacancy is advertised as a Main Scale teaching post, for the right candidate with relevant extensive experience, Upper Pay Scale pay can also be offered for colleagues able and willing to contribute significantly to whole-school development . This includes opportunities to lead on curriculum initiatives, act as a role model for teaching, and provide mentoring to other teachers.

The school has over 1,100 students on roll, including a Sixth Form College of about 200 students. It is a well-established comprehensive school, which is well supported by parents and highly respected in the community.

Our students are very talented, a joy to teach and standards of performance and expectations are very high. We have an outstanding vision for our young people. If you would like to be part of this successful and thriving school and are a well-qualified and highly motivated professional, we would like to hear from you.

Please be aware that we can only accept applications from overseas candidates who have the Right to Work in the UK.
