Your Role

Oak Tree Primary School (Durrington Multi-Academy Trust)

Annualised hours: 20 hours per year, with additional hours as needed

Usual meeting times: 5:00pm–7:00pm (with notice given if times differ)

Oak Tree Primary School is seeking an organised, proactive and efficient Clerk to the Local Committee to support our governance team. This is an important role that ensures our Local Committee operates effectively, follows statutory requirements and contributes positively to strong governance across Durrington Multi‑Academy Trust (DMAT).

This position is offered on annualised hours (20 per year), with additional hours available for occasional further meetings such as exclusions or complaint hearings. Because the contracted hours are limited, applicants must be confident using AI‑assisted tools to help draft agendas, compile notes, create first‑draft minutes and manage documents accurately and efficiently.

About the role

The Clerk will:

• Plan, prepare and administer Local Committee meetings in line with Trust expectations

• Attend and minute meetings, which are usually held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm; if meeting times vary, notice will always be provided

• Produce clear, impartial and accurate minutes reflecting discussion, challenge and decisions

• Provide procedural and governance advice to the Chair and committee

• Maintain accurate governance records, update GovernorHub and support compliance with statutory requirements

• Use AI tools to support drafting, summarising and efficient document production

About you

We are looking for someone who:

• Has strong administrative experience and excellent written English

• Is confident and capable in the use of AI tools for drafting, summarising, note‑taking and minute production (essential)

• Has high digital literacy, including Microsoft Office and online systems

• Is well organised, reliable and able to meet deadlines independently

• Understands confidentiality, GDPR and safeguarding principles

• Can attend meetings that generally take place from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with flexibility when required and with notice given

Experience in clerking or school governance is helpful but not essential if strong transferable skills are demonstrated.

Why join us?

• Flexible, annualised hours suited to someone seeking a small but meaningful role

• Support from an experienced governance team within a respected Multi‑Academy Trust

• The chance to make a positive contribution to the leadership of a local primary school

Safeguarding Information

Safeguarding – Our Commitment

Keeping children safe is at the heart of everything we do. As part of our recruitment process, we take steps to make sure everyone who joins us shares this commitment.

What this means for you:

  • All roles in our schools involve a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
  • If you’re successful, you’ll need to complete some pre-employment checks, such as an enhanced DBS check and verifying your right to work in the UK. We’ll explain these clearly and guide you through the process.
  • During the interview, we may ask questions about your understanding of safeguarding. This isn’t a test—it’s about making sure we all share the same values and priorities.

Why do we do this?

Because every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and able to thrive. These checks and conversations help us create a secure and welcoming environment for everyone.

If you have any questions about safeguarding or the checks we carry out, please let us know—we’re happy to help.
