Durrington High School has a thriving and successful English department staffed by an enthusiastic team with a range of experience. Our vision is for every student to succeed while also fostering a love of reading, writing and studying English. We are constantly seeking ways to develop and improve our own teaching practice so that we ensure the best possible outcomes for our students. In essence, we want to be one of the best English departments in the county and the country. In order to achieve this, we are continuously evaluating our knowledge-rich curriculum and the quality of our provision to ensure that it challenges students to achieve beyond their best. We pride ourselves on combining evidence-informed classroom practice with a love of literature and language.
Our department and the wider school offer a huge range of professional development opportunities for staff at all levels of experience. Career progression (for those wishing to do this) is important to us and we actively seek to both recruit and retain the best staff to join our great staff body.
One of our greatest strengths is our teamwork and team spirit. All English staff contribute to planning and resourcing lessons and units of work; this consistency of approach is supported by our fortnightly planning and development meetings. CPD and a commitment to staff development are at the heart of everything we do. There are currently 13 staff teaching English, who are supported by a highly skilled library team with whom we work very closely. We are a very supportive and welcoming team who go over and above to help each other and our students.
If you are an enthusiastic, hardworking, conscientious and energetic teacher, who not only values young people but can motivate and inspire them across the age and ability range, then we would like to hear from you.
