The Job:

Pleckgate High School seek to appoint an Assistant Head of Mathematics on a full time and permanent contract.


What does this job do?

  1. Assist in the development and review of the maths curriculum and update all curriculum thinking documentation as necessary.
  2. Assist in the development, design and review of all assessments in mathematics, leading moderation and standardisation at KS3 and KS4.
  3. Support in the management and progress of all pupil data, using this to identify areas of underperformance and co-ordinate appropriate and effective intervention measures.
  4. Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning in mathematics, including leading QA and sharing feedback with the department and staff.
  5. Take an active role in the professional development of teachers in the mathematics department including supporting ECT's and less experienced members of the team.
  6. Share responsibility for maintaining high standards of teaching and learning across all classes and for all pupils.
  7. Contribute to the department's improvement plan and self-evaluation with an emphasis on improving attainment and progress of pupils.


What are the job requirements?

  1. Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree and be able to show evidence of ongoing professional development.
  2. Be able to show evidence of outstanding results for GCSE mathematics groups at foundation and higher level and preferably other mathematical qualifications (eg GCSE statistics, Level 2 further mathematics)
  3. Demonstrate outstanding teaching practice and excellent behaviour management.
  4. Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies and how children learn mathematics.
  5. Have a keen interest in subject specific pedagogy, reading and research which is evidenced in teaching practice.
  6. Evidence of commitment to extracurricular and enrichment provision.
  7. Have experience of observing lessons, coaching and mentoring colleagues, having a positive impact on their development.
  8. Have experience of improvement planning and of implementing a range of strategies to raise pupil achievement, with evidence of success.
