Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, proactive and conscientious Caretaker / Site Supervisor to play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, compliant and welcoming learning environment for our pupils, staff and wider community.


This is a varied and rewarding role that combines traditional caretaking duties with responsibility for supporting statutory compliance, site security, health and safety, contractor management, planned maintenance, sustainability initiatives and the day-to-day operational management of the school site.


The successful candidate will be an important part of the academy team, helping to ensure our buildings and grounds remain safe, compliant, well-maintained and fit for purpose.

The Role


The successful candidate will support the effective management of the school estate through responsibilities including:


  1. Site security and keyholding.
  2. Health and safety compliance.
  3. Fire safety inspections and monitoring.
  4. Water hygiene and legionella control tasks.
  5. Monitoring and reporting building defects.
  6. Minor maintenance and repair works.
  7. Contractor supervision and site monitoring.
  8. Grounds and external area management.
  9. Compliance record keeping and inspections.
  10. Supporting sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives.
  11. Preparing facilities for school and community use.
  12. Supporting the Trust's commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant and high-quality learning environment.


We Are Looking For Someone Who:


Essential


  1. Has experience in caretaking, facilities, premises management or a similar role.
  2. Has a good understanding of Health and Safety legislation and safe working practices.
  3. Has knowledge of COSHH requirements and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
  4. Understands fire safety procedures and emergency arrangements.
  5. Can undertake minor maintenance and repair tasks safely and effectively.
  6. Has good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  7. Can work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
  8. Has good communication and interpersonal skills.
  9. Demonstrates integrity, professionalism and reliability.
  10. Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  11. Is willing to undertake training relevant to the role.

Desirable


  1. Experience working within a school or academy environment.
  2. Fire Marshal or Fire Warden training.
  3. Asbestos Awareness training.
  4. Legionella Awareness or Water Hygiene training.
  5. IOSH Working Safely or equivalent qualification.
  6. First Aid qualification.
  7. Experience using digital maintenance or compliance systems.
  8. Experience supervising contractors or cleaning staff.
  9. Experience supporting sustainability or environmental initiatives.

Safeguarding Information

Our staff work effectively with social care, the police, health services and other services to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. 


We have in place clear policies, systems and strategies that ensure the safeguarding and welfare of pupils especially those relating to child protection, behaviour, bullying, safe recruitment of staff, health and safety, harassment and discrimination. All those who work within the Trust, including Trust Directors and Trustees, put the safeguarding of pupils as our highest priority to ensure that all children are free to learn without worry or fear or harm.


All successful candidates will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check. The DBS check will reveal both spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and bind-overs as well as pending prosecutions, which are not “protected” under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. We will use the DBS check to ensure we comply with the Children Disqualification Regulations.
