(actual salary £22,085 to £23,157 per annum)

Required for April 2026

If you enjoy making, fixing, organising and generally keeping a busy workshop ticking along, this could be a great fit. Sir Christopher Hatton Academy is looking for a Design Technology Technician to join the Art & DT team and help keep our practical spaces running smoothly.

What the job involves

·        Looking after tools, machinery and equipment across our DT rooms and workshops

·        Keeping an eye on Health & Safety and carrying out daily checks

·        Preparing materials and resources for lessons so teachers and students can get stuck straight in

·        Supporting staff and students with practical projects

·        Managing stock levels and helping with ordering

·        Organising servicing and repairs for machinery and extraction systems

·        Helping with displays, mounting work and general department tasks

·        Acting as a first aider (training provided if needed)

·        Working closely with other technicians to share the load during busy periods

What you will offer

·        Confidence using workshop tools and machinery, or a willingness to learn

·        A practical, hands‑on approach and a knack for problem‑solving

·        Good organisation and the ability to juggle tasks without losing track

·        A calm, friendly presence around students and staff

·        A commitment to keeping everyone safe and following procedures

·        An interest in supporting creative, practical learning

You’ll be part of a supportive team, working in a role where no two days look the same. There’s plenty of room to learn new skills, get involved in interesting projects and make a real difference to the day‑to‑day running of the department.
