Your Role

Teacher of Inclusion - Primary or Secondary Trained

Sir Christopher Hatton Academy, Wellingborough, Northants

Main Pay Range / Upper Pay Range

Full time

Required for September 2026

This newly created role reflects our commitment to ensuring that students joining Year 7 receive the tailored transition support they need to flourish. Working closely with curriculum teams and the SEND department, the Teacher of Inclusion will lead a nurturing, structured provision designed to bridge the gap between primary and secondary education.

This role is ideal if you have experience teaching KS2 or KS3, and it offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills further—especially if you are considering a future career in specialist provision.

About the Role

This role presents an exciting opportunity to nurture the needs of students at a critical transition point in their academic journey; while fostering resilience, independence and verbal confidence through a broad and engaging adapted curriculum.

Key priorities for the role include:

  • Delivering engaging and ambitious lessons in a small-group setting that support students’ needs and secure strong student progress within core subjects
  • Contributing to the continued development of an adapted KS3 curriculum
  • Finding creative and engaging ways to deliver lessons within the core subjects of English, Maths and Science; understanding that some students may be working at KS2 or even KS1 level at times and so require appropriately adapted work (knowledge of systematic phonics approaches such as ‘Read Write Inc’ would be particularly helpful in this regard)
  • Supporting students to transition back into classrooms with the remaining Y7 cohort over time and ensuring that the students’ curriculum stays aligned with that of the year group
  • Providing small-group interventions for a range of students when the transition group are in other lessons
  • Playing an active role in building student character and contributing to wider academy life, including showcasing of student work and enrichment opportunities

About the Department

The role will be line-managed by the SENCo and your teaching base will be with the SEND department. Here you will have access to specialist support and advice to meet the needs of students within the group. You will also benefit from support from the Heads of English, Maths and Science who will provide you with their fully-resourced curricula and subject-specific guidance, support and CPD as required.

You will work closely with colleagues to share ideas, refine practice and create inspiring learning experiences. The academy places strong emphasis on collaboration, innovation and supporting students to develop their potential, making it an exciting environment, whatever your career stage.
