Join our large and ambitious secondary school as Second in Mathematics, where you will play a key role in shaping teaching excellence, driving student achievement and supporting the continued success of a thriving department.

About the Role

You will help students build confidence and fluency in numeracy by delivering clear, engaging lessons that develop problem-solving, logical thinking, and reasoning skills. As Second in Mathematics, you will work closely with the Head of Department to support the strategic development of the curriculum, promote high standards of teaching and learning, and drive student achievement across the department. Through clear explanations, targeted support, high expectations, and effective leadership, you will contribute to a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

  1. Delivering high-quality lessons that secure strong student progress, attainment, and confidence in mathematics.
  2. Supporting the Head of Department in leading curriculum development, assessment, and quality assurance across the department.
  3. Coaching, mentoring, and sharing best practice with colleagues to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
  4. Contributing to the development of teaching resources, schemes of work, and intervention strategies that support student success.
  5. Monitoring student progress and supporting the implementation of strategies to raise achievement and close attainment gaps.
  6. Supporting students across a range of courses and pathways to ensure all learners can succeed in mathematics.
  7. Playing an active role in departmental improvement planning and the implementation of whole-school priorities.
  8. Demonstrating a strong commitment to collaboration, professional development, and the sharing of best practice within the department.

About the Department

You will be joining a knowledgeable and specialist mathematics team with a strong culture of sharing good practice and supporting colleagues, including opportunities to contribute to curriculum innovation and development.

The department is diverse, with a broad range of experience and expertise, and offers a social, collaborative environment where the staff room acts as a hub for discussion and support. Teachers benefit from dedicated mathematics teaching spaces that enhance high‑quality learning and collaboration.
