Your Role

We are a Multi Academy Trust comprising of six secondary schools and two primary school with over 750 employees and over 5,500 students, based in Dudley, West Midlands.

Wombourne High School is a thriving, inclusive school with a strong commitment to supporting all students in achieving their full potential. We are seeking a Teacher of English (Reading and Literacy Lead).

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, inspirational and highly motivated Teacher of English with Reading and Literacy Lead. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding practitioner who is passionate about English, reading, literacy and oracy, and who is committed to driving excellence across the school. This role will oversee the strategic planning, implementation and quality assurance of our reading initiatives to overcome barriers to education.

The successful candidate will work closely with school leaders and staff to embed high‑quality reading and disciplinary literacy approaches across the curriculum. You will plan and deliver purposeful CPD, support teachers to become confident teachers of reading and literacy and promote best practice across the school. A key element of the role includes leading Forensic Reading to ensure a consistently high‑quality oracy education, leading the form time reading programme, alongside supporting transition from KS2 to KS3 to create a smooth and successful literacy journey for all students.

This role also involves quality assuring the Whole School Reading and Literacy policy, contributing the School Improvement Plan, and providing impact reports at school and trust level. This is an exciting opportunity to make a measurable impact on students’ reading, literacy and life chances.

The ideal candidate will share our student-centred values and be an engaging and proactive teacher with a passion for lifelong learning. You must firmly believe and be driven to ensure that every student regardless of starting point, can achieve success, enjoy school, and be engaged with wider school life, to become the best that they can be.

The candidate should be an outstanding classroom practitioner. The successful candidate will build on current developments within the school, Trust and nationally, to continue to improve outcomes and raise aspirations for all students.

We are sure that once you visit us and meet our students, you’ll find that we are the school for you and your career journey, our CPD through school and in partnership with Invictus is exemplary.

We would strongly encourage you to get in touch and arrange a visit. We want the very best staff for our students and look forward finding out if you are that person.

Your role involves regulated activity with children daily, and this post is subject to an enhanced DBS check. We will require you to complete an on-line DBS if you are appointed.

For an informal discussion about either the school, the post, or to organise a visit, please contact Sophie Dalton, Head of English, via email sdalton@wombournehighschool.co.uk

Safeguarding Information

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025, and as part of our recruitment process, the Trust will carry out an online search on all shortlisted candidates. All necessary Safeguarding checks will be undertaken which must have satisfactory outcomes, otherwise the conditional job offer may be withdrawn. These include an enhanced DBS check with Children’s Barred List information, identity checks, online checks, and verification of professional qualifications and references. Further details are available in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026.

This role has been assessed as working in regulated activity and is subject to:

It is a criminal offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
