Position: Red Balloon Educational Trust Safeguarding Lead

Your Role as the Red Balloon Educational Trust Safeguarding Lead

The RBET Safeguarding Lead is responsible for safeguarding across the whole Red Balloon Educational Trust (RBET). They play an important role in creating a strong safeguarding culture in all RBET Centres and in Red Balloon of the Air (RBAir).


While the Trustees hold overall responsibility for safeguarding, the Safeguarding Lead manages safeguarding on a day‑to‑day basis. They work closely with the designated safeguarding leads and deputy designated safeguarding leads, who in turn take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection within their own Centres and RBAir.


The RBET Safeguarding Lead takes the lead on all safeguarding and child protection issues that arise across RBET and supports other staff in responding to any concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing..

About Us

Red Balloon Educational Trust (RBET) is a UK charity that provides an alternative provision to young people studying at KS3-4 unable to attend mainstream school due to bullying, mental health issues, trauma or neurodivergence. We provide tailored educational, wellbeing and social re-engagement programmes both in physical Centres in Aylesbury, Norfolk and Worthing, as well as a blended online and in-person provision via Red Balloon of the Air in Cambridge.


The RBET Central Services team provides the underpinning strategic support and organisational development for the Red Balloon network, and works to open additional Centres in new locations.

Every Centre will ensure all staff complete training to ensure we all understand good practice and how to safeguard our learners and ourselves.


Red Balloon Educational Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments will be conditional of the satisfactory completion of safeguarding training and pre-employment checks including an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and barred list check.


Due to the role involving engaging in regulated activity with young people, it is an offence to apply for the role if the you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
