Higher Level Teaching Assistant and Family Support Worker

 

Location: St George's Church of England Primary Academy. Admiralty Street, Stonehouse, Plymouth. PL1 3RX

 

Contract Term: Permanent

Salary: Grade SC Level 5 – SCP 14-17 Starting salary £20,693 per hour (FTE £29,540)

Hours: 30 hours per week

Term Time only: 39 weeks per year

Closing Date: Friday 28th November 2025

Interview Date: Thursday 4th December

About the Role

This is an exciting dual role where no two days are the same. You will:

  • Provide high-quality support to pupils across the school, acting as an HLTA and taking on some class teaching commitments as needed.
  • Build positive, constructive relationships with children and families, offering guidance and support to help every child thrive.
  • Work closely with staff and external agencies to ensure early help, wellbeing support, and safeguarding processes are effective.
  • Contribute to whole-school life, bringing energy, compassion, and creativity to our community.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is an experienced HLTA or suitably qualified support professional.
  • Is passionate about nurturing strong relationships with pupils and families.
  • Can be proactive, organised, and flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and the wellbeing of every child.
  • Has knowledge or experience of SEND and is enthusiastic about developing their expertise as Assistant SENDCo.

Qualifications

Have HLTA status (or intention to gain HLTA status upon appointment) or equivalent qualification or experience. essential
GCSE Maths and English grade 4-9 (A-C) or equivalentessential
Relevant safeguarding qualification and/or training
Trained in Level 3 Safeguarding
