We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Instructor of Criminology (Maternity Cover) to join our Key Stage 5 provision. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher to join our successful and supportive Sixth Form team. Criminology is a popular and well-established subject at SM6, with students who are keen to explore crime, justice and contemporary society. The role offers an excellent opportunity to teach at Key Stage 5 within an ambitious, student centred sixth form with a strong commitment to exceptional outcomes.

The successful candidate will:

• Deliver engaging, challenging and purposeful teaching across the WJEC Level 3 Criminology specification at Key Stage 5

• Inspire students through relevant and thought-provoking application of criminological theory to crime, justice and contemporary society

• Monitor student progress closely and contribute to effective intervention and support strategies that promote strong outcomes

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to refine and enhance curriculum planning, resources and delivery within a supportive and ambitious team

• Provide effective preparation for both the controlled assessment and external examination components of the qualification, ensuring students understand the demands of assessment and are equipped to achieve their potential

• Maintain high expectations for student engagement, independent study and academic progress

• Support students in making ambitious and well-informed choices about their future, including progression to higher education, degree apprenticeships and careers related to criminology, law, policing, psychology, social sciences and the wider criminal justice sector

• Contribute positively to the wider life and culture of the Sixth Form, supporting our commitment to exceptional outcomes, personal development and pastoral care

The ideal candidate should:

• Be an effective classroom practitioner with a track record of securing positive student outcomes

• Have experience of teaching at Key Stage 5, or the ability to teach confidently at this level

• Be passionate about inspiring students through contemporary issues in crime, justice and society

• Be committed to delivering high quality post 16 education with high expectations for all learners

• Be skilled in using assessment to monitor progress and inform teaching

• Be enthusiastic, reflective and committed to ongoing professional development

• Be keen to contribute to the continued success of a high performing school and sixth form

• Have strong subject knowledge in Criminology, Law, Sociology, Psychology or a related discipline
