An Exciting New Role at The Maple School, Blackpool
The Maple School is seeking an exceptional Care & Guidance Manager to join our growing team and help strengthen our pastoral, behaviour and wellbeing provision.
As a specialist aged 10-16 SEMH school in Blackpool, we support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs to overcome barriers, develop resilience and achieve success. Following a period of significant improvement and positive change, we are continuing to invest in our provision and are creating this exciting new role to further enhance the support available to our pupils and staff.
About the Role
This is a pivotal role within the school, responsible for coordinating behaviour, pastoral and welfare support for pupils while providing day-to-day management of the Care & Guidance team.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about helping young people succeed and who has a strong understanding of behaviour support within a specialist setting. The successful candidate will work directly with pupils, staff, families and external agencies to remove barriers to learning, improve attendance, promote positive behaviour and ensure pupils receive the right support at the right time.
A key aspect of the role is supporting colleagues to successfully manage behaviour. You will coach and advise staff, model best practice and help develop consistent approaches across the school. You will be highly skilled in using de-escalation strategies, restorative approaches and therapeutic interventions to prevent situations from escalating and to help pupils regulate their emotions and remain engaged in learning.
The role is hands-on and requires a calm, resilient and proactive individual who can respond effectively when pupils experience crisis or distress. There will be occasions where you are required to participate in approved positive handling and physical intervention procedures in line with school policy, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff at all times.
You will also act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, coordinate multi-agency support, oversee reintegration and intervention programmes, and contribute to the ongoing development of whole-school behaviour and pastoral systems.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Has experience working with children and young people with SEMH needs.
- Has a strong understanding of behaviour management and pastoral support.
- Is highly skilled in de-escalation, conflict resolution and relationship-based practice.
- Can support, coach and manage a team to deliver high-quality pastoral interventions.
- Builds positive relationships with pupils, families and professionals.
- Remains calm, professional and solution-focused in challenging situations.
- Has a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
- Shares our belief that every child can succeed with the right support.
