Before/After School Assistant 

Start date: ASAP

Casual Zero hours position

£13.28 per hour plus £1.60 holiday pay


Billingshurst Primary Academy is committed to providing high quality child care for all children who attend before and after school provision and wishes to appoint some Casual Before/After School Club Assistants.


The successful candidates will: 

  1. Have experience of delivering imaginative and innovative activities to children;
  2. Be expected to ensure the provision offers a safe and stimulating play environment;
  3. Assist in the administration of the club, keeping relevant records and ensuring that the agreed club procedures are implemented;
  4. Prepare and serve meals;
  5. Supervise mealtimes;
  6. Ensure the safe collection and transportation of children between their classrooms and the club;
  7. Ensure that areas are clean and cleared at the end of sessions;
  8. Communicate and liaise with parents;
  9. Have a passion and motivation for improving the lives of all children;
  10. Have an optimistic attitude and be flexible to the demands of the job;
  11. Demonstrate versatility, tact, commitment and the ability to use initiative;
  12. Be patient and able to stay calm and listen and value children’s views;
  13. Be able to work as part of a team and be expected to contribute to its development;
  14. Have the ability to strictly maintain confidentiality;
  15. Have experience with some behaviour management techniques.

Abilities, Skills and Knowledge

Knowledge and understanding of: the needs of young children; essential
Knowledge and understanding of the roles played by various adults in a child’s educationessential
knowledge and understanding of behaviour management strategiesessential
knowledge and understanding of questions related to equal opportunitiesessential

Experience

Experience of working with young children with challenging behaviour
Experience as a paid worker in play schemes, crèches, after-school clubs or similar.

Experience/Knowledge

Experience of working with young children in an education settingessential

Qualifications

good basic education to GCSE level (A-C/4-9) in literacy and numeracy, or the equivalentessential
A relevant qualification in Childcare and/or Education

Relevant Skills

Ability to explain tasks simply and clearly and foster independenceessential
Ability to supervise children, and adhere to defined behaviour management policiesessential
Ability to accept and respond to authority and supervisionessential
Ability to work with guidance, but under limited supervisionessential
Can demonstrate good organisational skillsessential
