J15 Lead Rowing Coach
Salary: £31,500 (actual salary)
Permanent
Full-time
Start date: September 2026
Sir William Perkins’s School Boat Club was the highest ranked girls’ school programme on the National Schools’ Regatta 2026 Medal Table, winning Gold medals at J15, J16 and Championship level. The J15 Lead Coach will perform a vital role in the development of our students as they transition from their first year of rowing as J14s, to competing at the highest national level as J15s. This role is an opportunity for those with a strong passion for, and understanding of the sport to develop their coaching and squad-leadership abilities, as part of a supportive and cohesive wider team of coaches.
A keen eye for detail and care over properly executing tasks (for both the post holder and the pupils under their watch) are essential, as is an awareness of the safety and wellbeing of the students at all times before, during and after sessions. A successful candidate must take interest in the wider life of our students, and take a lead in developing the skills of the J15 Squad in areas such as time-management, communication and personal organisation. The J15 Lead Coach’s own organisation and administrative skills must be exemplary.
The Boat Club is on an exciting trajectory, with excellent backing from the pupil and parent body, as well as strong support and investment from the school. Whilst the majority of the responsibilities for the role centre around the key development season of Year 10 rowing, there is a fantastic culture of communication and integration of all coaches into the weekly goings-on of the whole club, and all coaches are a part of each and every success registered across age-groups. There may be scope for the J15 Lead Coach to be involved with Senior Squad coaching at suitable points during the season.
The post-holder’s coaching will develop by leading the J15 Squad throughout the season to both local and major national events, and the chance to be immersed in a high-performing school boat club with significant annual goals should be a major motivating factor. The post-holder will have a flexible working schedule through the season due to varying demands on, and availability of the whole coaching team. This includes weekend and holiday work.
