Job Role: Teacher of Hair and Beauty

Reporting to: Head of Hair and Beauty

Salary: Teacher’s Main Scale / Unqualified Teacher’s Pay Scale equivalent

Contract Hours: 0.6 FTE (Part-Time, 3 days per week)

Qualification focus: City & Guilds level 1 hairdressing/beauty and Level 2 Technical Award in Hair and Beauty Studies.

We are seeking to appoint Hair and/ or Beauty teacher to join our fantastic and supportive Practical Faculty.

We currently have a thriving and popular Hair and Beauty department, that offers Level 1 and 2 City and Guilds qualifications in Hair, Beauty. We are hoping to recruit passionate and driven teacher who will inspire and motivate students within this dynamic industry and could also develop the commercial opportunities we can offer here within the academy and develop career opportunities for our students.

Purpose of Role:

To deliver a high-quality Hair & Beauty curriculum to Key Stage 3 & 4 (Year 9-11) learners, as possibly to our Sixth Form Level 3 students.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the range of content within the City & Guilds courses Level 1 and Level 2, this includes the evolution of the industry, pH of products, cosmetic ingredients, and anatomy of hair, skin and nails. You will guide students in the design of different hair styling techniques, and historical looks from different eras to produce a final professional image.

Specific Duties:

  • To teach Hair and/ or Beauty to groups of students from all abilities across years 9-11 (KS3 and KS4).
  • To ensure that all lessons are planned with clear aims and objectives.
  • To ensure that all lessons are delivered in line with the departmental schemes of work and school policies.
  • To consider the differing abilities of students and differentiate work accordingly.
  • To encourage all students to be actively engaged in their own learning and in reviewing their progress against targets.
  • To ensure that all students are known by name and that the classroom atmosphere is always positive.
  • To encourage and foster intellectual curiosity.
  • To deal with inappropriate behaviour quickly and effectively according to the school behaviour policy.
  • To check that all subject matter is effectively communicated and understood by all groups of students.
  • To set appropriate tasks and challenges for homework according to the published timetable and ensure that it is regularly marked with constructive feedback.
  • To keep careful records of student progress in line with departmental and school policy.
  • Liaise with Head of Department regularly.
  • Keeping clear records of work and student attendance registers.
  • Attending meetings and workshops as required.
