Your Role

Progress Mentor

£26,755 to £28,297 per annum for a staff term time only plus 5 days' role.

Do you have experience working with young people and a real knack for building trust and rapport? Are you passionate about supporting young people to thrive? Do you love the idea of being a go-to guide, motivator, and mentor for ambitious students?

If you have answered YES to these questions then we want to hear from you!

At Blackpool Sixth, we’re proud to be a first-class college dedicated to 16–19 education. We’re on the lookout for a Progress Mentor to join our fantastic Student Services team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will be working 36.25 hours a week over 5 days, college staff term time only (plus 5 additional days). This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of the college-wide pastoral team where you will be supporting a wonderful group of highly ambitious students studying on a range of courses.

As a Progress Mentor, you’ll be a key part of our pastoral support network; building positive relationships with your own cohort of students, delivering sessions on life skills and wellbeing, and helping each individual to unlock their full potential.

This role is perfect for someone who’s passionate about supporting students; someone who builds meaningful connections, helps remove barriers to learning, and is committed to helping every individual reach their full potential. At the same time, you’ll be confident in upholding high standards, expectations and discipline, working within established college systems to create a positive, focused learning environment.

A day in your new role could see you:

  • Delivering engaging, supportive group sessions as part of our pastoral curriculum
  • Having meaningful one-to-one conversations that support students with attendance, progress and next steps
  • Setting SMART targets to keep students motivated and on track
  • Following up student absences and setting high expectations for attendance
  • Working closely with support teams to break down any barriers to learning
  • Offering guidance on future pathways – whether that’s university, apprenticeships, work or a well-deserved gap year
