Learning Support Assistant

Starting salary £21,627 per annum for full time, term time only.

Fixed term for the 26/27 academic year

Do you have a passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning? Are you dedicated to supporting students with SEND, complex medical needs, or additional learning requirements? Ready to empower students to achieve autonomy, self-confidence, and success as they prepare for adulthood?

If you have answered yes to these questions, then we want to hear from you!

At Blackpool Sixth, we specialise in 16–19 education and pride ourselves on being a first-class college where students thrive. We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Learning Support Assistant to join our Learning Support and Inclusion department. Working as part of a cross-college team, you will support students with disabilities, learning needs, or medical requirements to operate as independently as possible and fully contribute to college life.

Whether you’re taking your first steps into educational support or looking to build on an established career, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your practice in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

Our Learning Support and Inclusion department is collaborative, high-performing, and student-focused, with a strong track record of achievement and progression. You’ll be joining a highly experienced and supportive team that shares resources, ideas, and a genuine commitment to helping every student succeed.

This is a fixed term position for the 26/27 academic year.

A day in your new role could see you:

  1. providing in-class and out-of-class support to an identified cohort of students with SEND and complex medical needs.
  2. helping students develop independent learning skills, positive behaviours, and self-esteem.
  3. assisting students with specific physical, personal care, or medical needs following appropriate training and risk assessments.
  4. monitoring student progress and liaising with teaching, pastoral staff, and parents/carers to support academic success.
  5. maintaining accurate digital support records and adapting class materials using college systems.
  6. providing examination invigilation and access arrangement support.
  7. accompanying students on college-organised trips and work experience placements.
  8. participating in first aid duty team responsibilities and safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
