Your Role

Join our award-winning team

Did you know the Deaf Academy had an adult residential care provision? We’re seeking Residential Care Workers to join our inspiring team supporting our adults to develop their independent living skills, whilst supporting their education or work experience pathway. The role will be based at our new adult residential centre in Exmouth and is a close walk to the beach.

  1. Are you an experienced in adult social care and ready to apply these skills to a new setting?
  2. Or are you curious about working with Deaf young adults and learning British Sign Language (BSL)?
  3. Are you passionate about wanting to make a difference to people’s lives?
  4. Do you want a job that is varied and rewarding, where you’ll also be getting out and about planning and organising social activities locally and further afield?
  5. We’ll provide full training, including British Sign Language (BSL) training and sponsorship to complete your Level 3 Diploma. If you’re already qualified at Level 3, fantastic. But if your experience comes from education, adult care, or another support role, that’s valuable too - we’ll help you grow into the role and sponsor you to achieve your diploma.

Every day as a Residential Care Worker is different. You’ll be supporting our young adults who live in our Adult Residential and Learning Centre to develop their independent living skills, as well as organising social activities, for example, activities in the local community, trips to the beach, cinema or bowling, as well as trips further afield. Our students spend their day in college (at the academy or offsite), some also doing work placements or qualifications elsewhere, after which they return to our residential care flats. The shift pattern for this role is therefore outside of 'taught hours'.

Take a look at our dedicated recruitment site for further details, staff stories and how to apply: Residential care workers - the Deaf Academy

Shift Pattern

There are 2 teams that you may be placed in, each team works 42 hours per week that share a 2-week rota including weekends (working some evenings including sleep-ins, and 1 in every 2 weekends during the term). This will be discussed in further detail at interview. For an overview of the shift pattern, take a look here.

What we offer

  1. 13 weeks of holiday (rare in care roles!)
  2. Weekly staff CPD and development sessions
  3. Work in a large team of supportive Residential Care Workers
  4. Fully funded BSL training and in‑house lessons
  5. A collaborative, inclusive and inspiring culture
  6. Progression opportunities and specialist training
  7. A beautiful coastal location close to the beach

*This position is working during the academy's term time, plus an additional 5 training days. The minimum salary for this role with no sleep-in rate applied is £24,823pa (this would apply to those only working the Mon-Fri shift pattern). The salary including sleep-ins may be up to £28,471pa (this includes payment for the maximum numbers of sleep-ins possible for those working on full shift pattern), or £30,646 pa for those at top of the pay scale.

We have a number of roles available to start in September, we will therefore be shortlisting applications on a rolling basis. The Academy may close or amend the advert before the closing date.
