Your Role

The Dean Trust is seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Inclusion Higher Level Teaching Assistant (FTC) to join our dedicated team at Dean Trust Wigan.

The core purpose of the role will be to complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This may involve planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups or for whole classes and monitoring pupils and assessing, recording and reporting on pupils' achievement, progress and development.

The Turnaround Centre provides bespoke intervention to support pupils in mainstream education that are struggling to demonstrate the Dean Trust Wigan Way of 'Be ready, be respectful, be responsible'. Candidates are expected to demonstrate their experience and impact with supporting pupils who can present as challenging and have multiple needs in their supporting statement.

We are looking to recruit a Higher Level Teaching Assistant who is determined to raise standards across all levels and abilities and further contribute to the progress of our pupils. Playing a key role in driving the school forward as we continue to rapidly accelerate progress in all key areas of the school through our high standards and expectations.

Key responsibilities:

  • To lead, supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs; SEMH, Behavioural and SEND, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils' learning.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom.
  • Organise and manage appropriate learning environment and resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupil responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against pre-determined learning objectives.
  • Record progress and achievement in lessons/activities systematically and providing evidence of range and level of progress and attainment.

You will join a dedicated team at Dean Trust Wigan who ensure that every pupil is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential. You will work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake and provide work/support programmes, to enable access to learning for all pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils within the classroom. You may also be required to supervise groups of pupils undertaking activities in non-teaching situations.
