Your Role

The Dean Trust is seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Technology Faculty Technician to join our dedicated team at Dean Trust Wigan to support our Construction, Art and Design & Technology departments.


If you have a background in construction, joinery, carpentry, engineering, maintenance or a related trade, we'd love to hear from you. Previous experience working in a school isn't required - we'll provide the support you need to transition into the role.

Core Duties:

The curriculum technician will provide practical, administrative and technical support service across the subject area.

  1. Preparation of materials and equipment for project work from year 7 to 11.
  2. To operate machinery (training provided).
  3. To undertake regular checks, minor repairs and report faults and safety problems to the relevant persons.
  4. To be responsible for the application of good practice when dealing with the use and storage of materials and equipment ensuring compliance with health and safety and other relevant record keeping.
  5. Cleaning sinks and cleaning bench-tops of debris and materials, clearing spillages.
  6. Updating stock records and subject inventory records.
  7. To maintain stocks of relevant materials which will include ordering of goods and supplies from staff requisitions and liaise with suppliers as necessary.
  8. To put up and service classroom displays and corridor displays as directed.
  9. To participate in training and personal development programs as required.
  10. To be available if required to cover for other curriculum technicians in other subject areas.
  11. To be first aider
  12. To undertake any duties as may be determined by the Headteacher commensurate with the grade to support the effective efficient operation of the school curriculum and activities.


Additional Duties:

  1. To participate in continuing professional development.
  2. To be aware of and comply with all school policies and procedures.
  3. To appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
  4. To work under the direction of the lead teacher/organiser, when accompanying staff and pupils on a school trip.
  5. To undertake any duties as may be determined by the Headteacher commensurate with the grade to support the effective, efficient operation of the school curriculum and activities.


All employees have the responsibility to:

  1. Ensure any documentation produced is to a high standard and is in line with the brand style
  2. Be aware and comply with policies and procedures relating to Safeguarding, child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person
  3. Participate in training and other learning activities as required
  4. Participate in the Academy’s Performance Management process
  5. Provide appropriate guidance and supervision and assist in the training and development of staff as appropriate
  6. To promote the area of responsibility within the Academy and beyond
  7. To represent the Academy at events as appropriate
  8. To support and promote the Academy ethos
  9. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required that are covered by the general scope of the post
  10. To undertake any other reasonable duties at the request of the Chief Executive & Academy Principal, Executive Headteacher and Headteacher
