John Watson School is seeking to appoint a Lunchtime Supervisor to join our existing vibrant and friendly team of our all age special school.

This is a permanent post working from 11:30am until 1:30pm each day and is term time only. The duties include preparing the dinner hall for lunch, supervising and assisting pupils in the hall, and supervising pupils throughout the lunch break. All training will be provided by existing school staff.

There are often opportunities for supply work in the classroom either before or after the lunch should this be of interest.

John Watson School is a Special School in Wheatley. We cater for children with Special Educational Needs from the ages of 2 - 19 years. We aim to create a happy, healthy and secure learning environment in which the needs of all pupils are met, enabling each child to reach his or her individual potential. We offer pupils opportunities for integrated educational experiences with their peer groups in the nursery, primary and secondary schools whose sites we share. We support pupils in developing practical and social skills that can be used at school, at home and in the community.

 About the Role

  • Provide lunchtime support for designated pupils
  • Work with other lunchtime supervisors to set up the lunch hall using the pupil seating plan
  • Assist in transferring pupils between the classroom, lunch hall and outside play area
  • Help with feeding of individual pupils
  • Support pupils to maintain good eating habits and good behaviour
  • Supervise designated pupils on the playground
  • Support pupils with personal care needs
  • Support pupils to meet their targets in both the lunch hall and outside break duty
  • Assist the teacher and teaching assistants to manage behaviour as required
  • Participate in some training events, such as Safeguarding
  • Be aware of and comply with Health and Safety legislation and policies of the school

Who We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with learning difficulties
  • A strong team player with the confidence to use initiative when needed
  • Able to follow direction and adapt to changing situations
  • Committed to equality, diversity and inclusive practice
  • Physically fit to meet the demands of the role, including manual handling and being active throughout the day
  • Flexible and adaptable, with willingness to work across teams or school sites
  • Happy to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Positive, proactive and resilient attitude
  • First Aid qualification (desirable)
