We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring, and reliable Playworkers to join our friendly after school and holiday club team on as casual basis. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about supporting children’s development through play, creativity, and positive engagement in a safe and inclusive environment.

Fitzwaryn School is widely recognised as an outstanding provider of education within Oxfordshire for pupils aged 3-19 years whose Special Educational Needs range from Moderate Learning Difficulties through to profound and multiple learning difficulties.

As a Playworker, you will help to plan and deliver fun, stimulating activities, build strong relationships with children and families, and contribute to a welcoming setting where every child feels valued and supported. Fitzwaryn at St John’s

The development of Fitzwaryns’ satellite provision at St John’s School marks an exciting new chapter for us. Two purpose-built centres, located within a mainstream setting just four minutes from the main site, will expand capacity and enable up to 40 additional pupils to benefit from the school’s outstanding provision.

 About the Role

  • Support daily running of the club and deliver engaging play activities
  • Ensure children’s safety, wellbeing, and positive behaviour
  • Assist with safe collection/handover and maintain a clean environment
  • Prepare healthy snacks and support basic admin tasks
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and work as part of the school team

About you

  • Level 2 qualification in Playwork (defined as full and relevant by the Teaching Agency to work in an early years setting) or a commitment to obtain the same, or
  • Level 2 early years/childcare qualification AND evidence of commitment to achieve the above (or a level 3 qualification in Playwork)
  • Training in safeguarding children at ‘generalist' level, as defined by the Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board, within past three years, or a commitment to complete this within 3 months of recruitment
  • Current appropriate first aid certificate or evidence of commitment to achieve this within 3 months of recruitment
  • Food safety/hygiene qualification at Level 2 or above.
  • Experience of working with children in any setting
  • Good communication skills

About Us

Fitzwaryn is an Outstanding Special School for children and young people from 3 – 19 years old whose Special Educational Needs range from Moderate Learning Difficulties through to Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties.

The school is situated in Wantage, a small but growing market town in Oxfordshire. We have a fantastic, up to the minute, purpose built environment that enables us to deliver an exciting and diverse curriculum for each and every child. We continually strive to further develop our educational offer and in recent times we have added a Horticulture area and a bike track to our outside provision.

The school is organised into 11 classes including provision for EYFS and Post 16.
