An introduction to Humanities at Weydon

The History and RS departments are part of the larger Humanities faculty which includes Geography, RS and Politics. Each department area works collaboratively to produce high quality and ambitious curriculums. Students make their option choices at the end of Year 8 and therefore follow a three-year GCSE programme. All subjects are popular at GCSE (note Politics is currently offered to a few students as an AS Level option). Classroom teaching is of the highest quality and delivered in an engaging and consistent way with regular continued professional development aimed at constantly improving the curriculum and the pedagogy used to teach it.

60% of students at Weydon are high prior attainers, but this is a comprehensive school and we work hard to ensure our lessons are adapted to the needs of the individuals in each class. Disciplinary reading is a whole school focus,  as the legacy of COVID continue to adversely affect the reading ages of students across the school.

Every student has access to resources through their own iPad; you will have your own iPad and laptop to support your planning and delivery of lessons in and out of school.

Professional Learning is an integral part of working at Weydon with opportunities for pedagogial and leadership development embedded into the weekly CPD programme.

Students at Weydon are expected to take part in two clubs each week, the Humanities faculty runs a range of extra-curricular opportunities including History Film Club, Young Geographers Club as well as trips to local areas of interest such as a trip to a mosque, Winchester and Farnham Castle. There are occasional talks and guest speakers. There is also a regular optional international trip to Berlin (History), Iceland (Geography) and Rome (RS).

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our fantastic school. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding, innovative and inspirational teacher with the passion and enthusiasm to fulfil an important role in the school as a Teacher of History and Religious Studies.

Results at GCSE are strong, but we are relentless in our drive for improvement, and you will be empowered to bring your subject expertise, emotional intelligence and curriculum vision to secure excellent results for every child, regardless of their starting point.

This post would suit somebody looking for their first teaching role, or someone with more experience, who would like to work in a thriving curriculum area. The key is that you are enthusiastic and capable of contributing to a highly effective and supportive teaching team.
