ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an inspirational English & Maths Manager to take a central leadership role in shaping, driving and quality‑assuring our English and Maths provision across the college.
This cross‑college post is critical in realising the vision of our English & Maths Strategy 2026–27. Working collaboratively with Curriculum Heads, teaching teams and our Quality Directorate, you will lead a devolved delivery model that ensures:

What You’ll Lead & Deliver
Strategic Leadership
- Drive the college’s English & Maths Strategy, ensuring alignment with national policy and Ofsted expectations.
- Provide specialist guidance on curriculum design, qualification selection and programme suitability.
- Ensure provision meets the needs of 16–18 learners, adults, apprentices and community learners.
Quality Assurance & Improvement
- Lead cross‑college QA including learning walks, lesson visits, work scrutiny and assessment standardisation.
- Monitor attendance, progress and learner outcomes, presenting performance updates to senior leaders.
Teaching, Learning & Assessment
- Support teachers to use college frameworks effectively and deliver high‑quality learning experiences.
- Oversee assessment schedules including mocks, diagnostics and progress checks.
- Champion evidence‑informed pedagogy and the contextualisation of English & Maths across vocational areas.
Digital Learning Leadership
- Lead strategic and consistent use of online assessment and support tools.
- Oversee diagnostic insights, activity monitoring and staff training.
Timetabling, Exams & Compliance
- Provide guidance on timetabling, exam board requirements, invigilation and access arrangements.
Staff Development & Coaching
- Design and deliver cross‑college CPD, mentoring and teaching support.
- Work collaboratively with Heads of Quality, TLA and Curriculum HoDs to ensure shared expectations and standards.
Learner Experience, Attendance & Behaviour
- Promote belonging, enjoyment and relevance within English & Maths lessons.
- Monitor and support attendance interventions across departments.
Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the central English & Maths specialist, liaising with HoDs, MIS, exams, senior leaders and external bodies.
To be successful in this role, you must hold a first degree (or equivalent) along with a teaching qualification and be able to show clear evidence of high‑quality teaching practice. You will need strong, up‑to‑date knowledge of the English and Maths curriculum, including assessment models and qualification frameworks, as well as experience leading or coordinating English and Maths provision within Further Education or a comparable setting.
While not essential, it is desirable for candidates to hold a Level 5 management qualification, or be willing to work towards one, as well as a higher degree. A clear commitment to organisational improvement, inclusion and learner‑centred practice will further strengthen your application.
