Your Role

Oakwood Primary Academy is looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with Early Reading Responsibilities on a fixed term basis until July 2026 to continue inspiring young minds. 

This is an exciting role contributing to a wide range of teaching and learning activities to support targeted pupils to make accelerated progress towards their Early Reading targets.

  • you have GCSE's (Grade 4 or above) in English and Maths, or equivalent
  • you have a genuine passion for working with young children

  • You have knowledge of principles for the effective teaching of Early Reading

Qualifications

GCSE Maths and English grade 4-9 (A-C) or equivalentessential
Makaton Training Accreditationdesirable
NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants, in Childcare or in Playwork, or equivalentdesirable
Current first aid qualification (or willing to work towards)desirable
Speech and Language Qualificationsdesirable

Knowledge of principles for the effective teaching of Early Readingessential

Ability to provide levels of individual attention, reassurance and support with learning tasks, relevant to the pupils’ needsessential
Experience of using IT to support pupils in the classroomessential
Experience of working as part of a teamessential
Experience of delivering Read Write Inc and DSRessential
Experience of establishing positive relationships with children and/or young peopleessential
Previous experience in a similar role
Knowledge of principles for the effective teaching of speech production and language development
Ability to carry out and report on systematic observations of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills
Ability to monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and, where appropriate modify and/or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcome

Experience/Knowledge

Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the legal and organisational requirements for maintaining health, safety, and security of yourself and othersessential
Knowledge or awareness of the SEN Code of Practice
