This is an exciting position starting in February 2026 to lead our excellent English department. This is a maternity cover and will end when the post holder returns. There is an opportunity of a secondment if you currently work in the Gosforth Group MAT.

First and foremost, we are looking for someone who loves English and is passionate, proactive and innovative. Our English department has a well-designed curriculum, enthusiastic students and well-resourced facilities. There is a strong reading culture at Callerton and you will be instrumental in continuing to drive this across the whole school. This year we have our first cohort of GCSE students, taking their GCSEs in summer 2026 which is really exciting for our community. You will be responsible for overseeing a successful delivery of GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature to our Year 10 & 11 students.

This post is an ideal opportunity for someone who is already a subject leader or is currently a second in subject, or for someone ready to take their first step into subject leadership. You will have a proven record of excellent teaching and a clear understanding of strategies to raise attainment and accelerate progress. Working alongside you there are a team of five English teachers and therefore you will be confident managing and motivating a team.
